Here is a family portrait of the TerMaat family, taken around 1908-9. I hope I have these correct (left to right): Lizzie, Chris, Henry (my grandfather), Papa John Henry, Mary, Anna, Mama Hattie, George, and Jennie. Click to enlarge.

This is amazing to me. I decided to Google my name and your blog came up. Several years ago my father (Richard terMaat) researched our ancestry and traced it back to the Netherlands, and I was intrigued...but he didn't bring pictures back and and so it didn't hit home for me the way this post did. Our name isn't particularly common anywhere, so I have always thought that all terMaats are most likely related, and it always gives me a thrill to find another of us! Although I now go by my married name, I will carry my ancestry with me. Thank you so much for contributing to the whole picture!
Thanks for your comment Anna! I am always happy when a fellow Ter Maat stumbles on this blog. You are right that there are not very many of us even in the Netherlands. If you ever wander back to this page and think you would like to compare notes about our family trees or see more old pictures you can reach me at rightsreaders @ gmail.com

I was just wondering if anyone knows what the father did for work? and Where they lived?
Please reply soon.
Thanks.
Thanks for the question!
At the time this picture was taken, I believe they had a farm in Sheboygan County, Wisconsin, near the town of Wilson.
